*** days missing ***
Mon 29 Aug
Arrived after flights from Buffalo to Chicago, Chicago to
Kansas City, then Kansas City to Las Vegas. Jet lag coupled
with the time difference meant headed for the hostel - Sin
City - and conked out for the night.
Tue 30 Aug
Moved hostels to one with a pool, enjoyed that for the first
part of the day. The heat was immense. Headed down the Strip
in the afternoon.

Went for a little gamble and spent all day in the Casino's.
Met up with Rosie in the evening for a night on the town.
Thu 1 Sep
Hired a car for the day to drive to the Grand Canyon via the
Hoover Dam. Stopped off for a while here to take some photos
before moving on.
Fri 2 Sep
Again spent the day enjoying the free shows put on by the
Casino's. Generally losing on the slots!
Sat 3 Sep
Headed to the Bus Depot to catch a bus to Los Angeles. Spent
most of the day on board a Greyhound bus from Las Vegas, and
when arrived in downtown LA discovered it was how many had
said - dirty and seedy. Headed to the hostel where spent the
night in a room with 20people in it, all sharing one bathroom
- was the worst hostel I visited in the United States..
Sun 4 Sep
Up to get the free breakfast, then headed to the Hollywood
hills, visiting the stars walk, the hollywood sign before
going to Beverly Hills and walking down some of the rich streets,
one word describes it - wow!
Mon 5 Sep
Went off to Venice beach to experience the Baywatch style
golden beaches and wasn't dissappointed. Then went to Universal
city in the hollywood hills.
Tue 6 Sep
Hired a car to drive the Pacific Coast Highway from Los Angeles
to San Francisco over two days. First day stopped off at a
gorgeous deserted beach for some sun before having some dinner
and stopping the night in a nice hotel in BLA.
Wed 7 Sep
Continued the journey on to San Francisco via the coastal
round, with some spectacular views. Managed to park downtown
in San Francisco before experiencing the steep roads when
going to the cinema that night before heading to bed, early
morning next day.
Thu 8 Sep
Up very early to drop the rental car off at the airport before
catching the train back into the city. Up early to drop the
rental car off. Took a walk to Telegraph hill, up and down
the streets on the way. Ended by going to Alcatraz, wow what
a place.
Fri 9 Sep
Did a spot of shopping and visited the birthplace of the hippy
- a street to the north of San Francisco. In the night headed
for the Green Tortoise bus trip. Spent the evening travelling
on the bus.
Sat 10 Sep
Went on a Green Tortoise organised trip to Yosemite National
Park. Saw some fantastic scenery, climbed some hills to see
a waterfall. Spent the night at a campsite with a bear trap
set ride beside the bus - and one came that night!
Sun 11 Sep
More fantastic scenery, climbed a very steep hill - looking
back was very dangerous! Visited the oldest bar in California
before travelling overnight back to San Francisco
Mon 12 Sep
Arrived back in San Francisco early hours of the morning.
Walked to the Golden Gate bridge and its surroundings. Went
out for dinner and to some bars with some people met ont he
Green Tortoise trip.
Tue 13 Sep
Had a relaxing morning, before heading to the airport to fly
to New York city. Arrived midnight from San Francisco with
nowhere to stay and to add to this everywhere was booked due
to NY fashion week and the UN were in town. In the end found
a spare room at a hotel in Brooklyn.
Thu 15 Sep
Mid-afternoon caught the Greyhound bus from New York city
to Hartford, the capital of the richest state in the United
States, Connetticut. Its rich because it is heart of the insurance
industry. Wanted a rest before hitting Boston and finally
New York city.
Fri 16 Sep
Visited the tourist information centre, who pointed me in
the direction of the state capital building, ancient burial
grounds, and invitied me to their party later that evening
- I turned up to be the token English guy, enjoyed it though.
Sat 17 Sep
Once I woke up headed for the bus depot to get on the road
to Boston. Arrived by Greyhound in the afternoon and made
my way to the Hostel I had bookd. Unfortunately the hostel
was overbooked so they sent me off to one that was a train
ride outside of the city. Before heading there I stopped by
an outdoor concert being held at the town hall by the local
radio station. Met up with a Welsh bloke at the hostel and
we went into the nearby town for some food before getting
an early one.
Sun 18 Sep
Headed into town to explore the international food market
and made use of the free sample crisps and ice cream. Next
stop was M.I.T. to check out the museum there, some funky
technology on show. Walked it back to the main city before
grabbing some dinner and heading out to a sports bar to watch
the baseball that evening.
Mon 19 Sep
Followed the Freedom trail throught the city stopping at the
various sights, also visited the Cheers bar and did a spot
of shopping to round off the day.
Tue 20 Sep
Again joined the Freedom Trail but followed it out of the
city to the naval yard - there saw the oldest US navy ship,
the USS Constitution, alongside a modern warship. Walked around
the museum which seemed very anti-British and pro-American,
before heading over to Harvard University. The oldest university
in the US, with a reputation that everyone has heard of, took
a walk around the grounds and saw studens hurrying to classes.
